Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews has said batting
star Kumar Sangakkara is still holding talks with selectors to discuss the plan
about his retirement from the Test cricket. Local media had rumored that the 37-year-old will only play three more Tests before finishing his shining
15-year career. These are two against Pakistan in the current series and one
against India in August. But Mathews ahead of the second Test against Pakistan
said on Thursday that the specialist batsman has not decided yet. The Sri
Lankan captain said Kumar has not confirmed his retirement plans because he was
likely to hold press conference over the last few days but he has not and he
knows Kumar is still talking to the selectors.

Sangakkara compiled a 50 in the first innings of the
first Test against Pakistan which Pakistan won by 10 wickets. Mathews denied
the view that Sangakkara delayed the announcement of retirement because of Sri
lanka’s defeat in Galle which gave Pakistan the lead in the three-match series.
Mathews said in this connection that he was talking to selectors even before
the start of the series adding morale of the team is not down with this uncertainty. Mathews added Kumar has right to decide when to retire because he
has served Sri lankan cricket over the years and he will be missed when he
walks away.
