Pakistan is
going to face Sri Lanka in the first match of the five-match ODI series at
Dambulla on Saturday 11 July. Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the Test series 2-1
though it has little bearing on the ODIs, Pakistan hopes their fortune do notchange with the change of format. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan 3-0 that
endangered their chances of playing the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 despite they
won at home against Zimbabwe. They have to arrange a tri-series with Zimbabwe
along with West Indies under these circumstances. Their first target is however
to win the series against Sri Lanka to keep their side safe.
Pakistan’s task is not looked easy because Sri Lanak
are always good in home conditions. Sri Lanka has picked two uncapped players Milinda
Siriwardana and Sachith Pathirana while out of form Rangana Herath has been
ruled out. Angelo Mathews will hope their chances are boosted with the return
of Tillakaratne Dilshan and he will want Dinesh Chandimal and Lahiru Thirimanne
continue their form. It looks Lasith Malinga and Suranga Lakmal are guaranteed
starters and inclusion of Thisara Perera might give their team a fine balance.
Tall and threatening Mohammad Irfan is back but
Pakistan will miss injured Wahab Riaz. Pakistan’s batting is strengthened with
the inclusion of Shoaib Malik as he looked in good form during CPL 2015.
Mohammad Hafeez too secures a spot in the squad. Sarfraz Ahmed looked good in
Tests and it might be a good plan to open with him. Likes of Ehsan Adil and Rahat
Ali will support Irfan but it will be interesting to see how the skipper uses Yasir
Shah. It seems to be a close contest provided both the teams are evenly matched
in terms of experience and skill but Pakistan is at more risk and Ali will
demand his companions to be always alert.
