Pakistan has beaten Zimbabwe in the last match of the
T20 series when just two balls were left to clinch the series 2-0. Unnoticed
batting talent of Bilawal Bhatti rescued Pakistan when they required 12 in the
last over. Before playing a cover drive for the winning runs, he hit a straight
six off Brian Vitori and then picked up two runs. Zimbabwe will not be feeling
lucky as they displayed some excellent pieces of batting and fielding. However
Pakistan was lucky to avail Shoaib Malik’s tight four overs which contain ed
Zimbabwe to 175 for 3. Mukhtar Ahmed once again played a key role with second successive
fifty but crowd kept Pakistan’s hopes alive. First wicket of Pakistan Ahmed
Shehzad fell down when he was caught by Vusi Sibanda trying to chop the ball up
to mid-off in chase of 176. Openers Shehzad and Mukhtar Ahmed gave a stand of
44 unlike to their first match dominating start of 142 runs. However Mukhtar
Ahmed continued hitting boundaries confidently at regular intervals even when
Nauman Anwar and Shoaib Malik were caught up and run out respectively. Mukhtar
capitalized eighth over of Graeme Cremer scoring 19 runs after he hit 3
boudaries in the second over.
He scored 50 runs from 33 balls but Sikandar Raza
got him out in the 14th over when Pakistan needed a further 59 runs from 39
balls. Shahid Afridi started his innings amid huge hue and cry but gave a catch
after playing just 3 balls near mid-off to Raza who fumbled for a moment but did
not give Afridi a second chance. Zimbabwe continued to pick wickets at regural
intervals but Pakistan was able to stay within required runrate. Earlier start
of Zimbabwe innings was safe and sound once again. Masakadza and Sibanda gave
an opening partnership of 50-plus once again. Masakadza hit Bhatti 3 successive
boundaries before he struck a six off Sami in the next over. Malik got him out
after he made 39 off 32 balls. Zimbabwe scored 50 in the last 5 overs with the
help of Chigumbura’s 3 sixes against sami in the 18th over. Zimbabwe was looking
to accumulate a huge total but Afridi yielded only four runs in the second last
over and Sami dismissed Chigumbura at the start of the final over. Results
could have been different if Zimbabwe had benefited last overs of their innings.
