SL strong after Angelo Mathews century setting Pak target of 377

Sri Lanka gives Pakistan a tough target of 377 runs for victory with the help of Angelo Mathews who hits his fifth test century in the series-decider third and final match at Pallekele on Monday. Sri Lanka resumed their second innings on 228-5 and were all dismissed for 313 with Mathews was the last man out after playing a captain’s innings of 122. Pakistan fast bowler Imran Khan claimed his first five-wicket haul after destroying the bottom half of the Sri Lankan batting with the second new ball. Mathews being on 77 overnight added 117 for the sixth wicket partnership with Dinesh Chandimal to extend the team’s lead.

Sri lankan skipper bound the middle order together in the absence of Kumar Sangakkara after Rahat Ali had led Pakistan to limit the hosts to 35-3 on the third day. Mathews escaped a run out chance when he was on 88 and surpassed a three-figure mark. Imran dismissed Chandimal after Misbah took the new ball when it was offered. Imran Khan dismissed Kaushal and Suranga Lakmal before he was on a hat-trick when he got Dhammika Prasad edge behind but Kaushal blocked the delivery successfully. The last man removed by him was Mathews after a 252-ball knock.
